What do we mean by interpreting

Simultaneous (REAL-TIME) interpreting

This is an interpreting technique used for events such as international conferences, meetings and conventions whereby the interpreters, sitting inside sound-proof booths, translate in real-time what the speaker is saying with the help of a microphone and headphones. The audience listen to what is interpreted through headphones. Simultaneous interpreting is highly skilled work requiring many years of experience and subject matter expertise. To be successful, events requiring simultaneous interpreters need careful planning and specialist equipment. Dragomanno provides its clients the opportunity to rent all the necessary equipment such as sound proof booths, microphones, headphones and audio systems and equipment. Please note that we've been arranging Simultaneous Interpreting assignments for over a decade and are committed to using this experience to help make your event a resounding success.
Also note that a minimum of 2 interpreters are required since simultaneous interpreting demands so much concentration that any individual can only hope to be effective for periods of 30 minutes or so. After that time they will need to hand off to a fellow interpreter and rest. Whilst resting they will continue to follow the proceedings and prepare for their next slot.

Consecutive ("LISTEN BEFORE TALK") interpreting

This is a technique generally used in meetings and press conferences, with a limited number of participants, for which it is not financially justifiable to rent the specific equipment used in simultaneous interpreting. The speaker delivers a few sentences of his/her speech and then pauses whilst the interpreter repeats what has just been said in the target language. The interpreter will take notes during the speaker’s discourse and then translate on the basis of such notes. The text is not literally reproduced but repeated in the target language in an effective way without leaving any information out. Please note that we've been arranging Consecutive Interpreting assignments for over a decade and are committed to using this experience to help make your event a resounding success.

Whispered or liaison interpreting

Whispered or liaison interpreting is delivered in real-time and involves the interpreter(s) re-articulating the original speech to the target audience in a whispered voice (thus without disturbing the rest of the audience); making it more suitable for small target audiences (1 to 3 individuals). It is useful in conferences or public events where booths are unavailable or where it is only a small percentage of the audience that does not understand the source language.

Facilitating interpreting

This is the interpreting technique which is most suitable for technical and business negotiations. It is suitable for small target audiences. The interpreter translates during a business meeting between two or more people within a company, in order to help both parties reach an agreement.
The interpreter has a very delicate role because he/she must understand the exact intentions of both parties to correctly express the intended meanings and tones.

Phone interpreting

This is a service that allows our clients to talk with their foreign interlocutors through the mediation of an interpreter. This can work face to face in the company’s offices or through phone calls with three interlocutors or video conferences. Telephone interpreting is especially suitable for those companies that need to communicate in a clear and direct way with their own foreign clients, without needing to have a specialized office in charge of such function.
This activity can be integrated with a correspondence management service with more or less continuous frequency.
